CRUSH WINE SHOP NEWS - February 21, 2008

A Word From Jim

Jim LarkinWhat a crowd we had for the “Morton's, The Steakhouse” Saturday Chef Series! But then why should that be a surprise? Steak and some great red wine selections are never a bad combination.

We’re “value tasting” this Saturday, including some new additions that we’re introducing into our everyday wine selections. Come taste and maybe discover a new favorite to take home. We’ll have some cheese bites to nibble while you work your way through the line up.

New and Notable Wines

2005 Pardevalles Gamonal ( Prieto Picudo)

90 points from the Wine Advocate! They say, "The Pardevalles winery, located in the new D.O. of Tierras de Leon (created in 2005), works exclusively with the indigenous Prieto Picudo grape. The 2005 Gamonal, which was aged for 6 months in a mixture of new and used French and American oak, is purple-colored with an excellent nose of vanilla, blueberry and blackberry. This is followed by a medium to full-bodied, elegant wine with ripe, sweet fruit and enough structure for 2-3 years of further evolution. Made from the wacky grape variety, Prieto Picudo. The vines are traditionally grown underground with the producers having to prop up the vines to keep the grape bunches out of the dirt. The folks at Pardevalles have the oldest vineyards that are trellis-trained. Full of black berry fruit and spice, this red from Leon is an excellent choice for a juicy steak". 90Pts Wine Advocate - $18.99

2006 Martinelli “Guiseppe & Luisa” Russian River Valley Zinfandel

There have been Martinellis farming in Russian River Valley since 1860 when Giuseppe and Luisa arrived from Italy. They weren't always growing grapes and making wine, but eventually the Martinellis did, starting in 1887. The family viticulture tradition continues on over 100 years later. The Martinelli Winery has earned its reputation for producing small lots of single vineyard, handcrafted wines that express the best of Russian River Valley, particularly its Pinot Noir and Zinfandel. This Zinfandel is huge, with earthy aromas and a palate of flavors loaded with plums, raisins, roasted meats, and licorice layers. Well-balanced, with a syrupy tongue. If you like big Zins, this will do just fine. The fabulous “Zin Master” Helen Turley is the winemaker! - $65.99

At The Wine Bar

New Wine By-The-Glass Menu!

Unfortunately, there is not an endless supply of great wine. We've run out of a few and it's time to select some new wines for the wine bar, and we've done just that!

You'll find a good mix of some of your favorites, along with a few of our premium wines that need to be "discovered". As always, we have a great selection of cheeses and meats that pair well with our wines. Need a recommendation? Just ask and we'll be happy to help you pick!
